This is where I hand the gable to the incoming president. I thank him for all the support, the Subject: Sannicolanians Worldwide Inc. background and timeline It took two grandinniliw (grandreunions) to finally reaffirm the commitment to the townfolks of San Nicolas, Pangasinan. It started as a plan for a reunion of the Red Arrow High Scool alumni headed by Mr. Roger Leprozo of California. The number of interested attendees however did not fillup the required quota. So, it was opened to the entire San Nicolas townmates. Thus, the start of Grandinniliw (GI) GI1 - November 2005 , at Binion Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada. A 3-day reunon was a great success! Attended by many long lost classmates, relatives and friends from all over the US and Canada and Philippines. Decision was made to repeat the event in 2 years and again, in Las Vegas. Regional delegates and host committees were appointed. GI2 - November 9,10 &11, 2007 at Gold Coast Hotel and Casino, Las Vegas, NV. A 3-day event was chaired by Mr.Manuel Mejia of Maryland and co-chaired by Dr. Tarcila Rodrigo of Las Vegas, and drew 300 plus attendees. The theme given by the souvenir program editor, Mr. R. Leprozo, was " An Affair to Remeber". Indeed, we remembered the carefree but secure by-gone days of our childhood and honored our departed parents and relatives, whose efforts have given us the strong foundation of what we are. We have acknowledged the different projects our townmates had done to help our fellow Sannicolanians such as medical missions, scholarship awards, laboratory facilities and equipment of the Rural Health Center, and the backpack project for the schoolchildren. This in turn, have awakened our desire to join into these pursuits. We heard the different needs and possible future ways of alleviating their sufferings. A call for community service, an appropriate title of the article by Mr. Peter Dumaliang published in the souvenir program. Our guest speaker was the accomplished and inspiring Mr. Victor Ramos. 2008 to 2009 - another article written by Mr. Peter Dumaliang published in GI 3 souvenir program relates the basis of the formation and birth of San Nicolanians Worldwide Inc, a non-profit organization in the state of Nevada. A volunteer and recruited interim officers was formed at this stage. Representations from the different regional district were selected. President- Tarcila R. Rodrigo, M.D., Vice-president- Manuel Mejia, Secretary- Peter Dumaliang, Asst. secretary- Percy Corpuz, Treasurer- Roger Corbin, Asst. treasurer- Daphne Lu, Auditor- Manuel Navarro, PRO- Sofronio Ubaldo and Business Manager- Hannibal Laureta. The articles of incorporation and by-laws were formulated and signed by the officers. The organization was incorporated on December 12, 2008 and subsequently registered a non-profit organization in the state of Nevada. GI3- October 9,10 & 11, 2009 at Gold Coast Hotel and Casino and Corbin's private residence, Las Vegas, NV. Day 1- was a Barrio Fiesta at the Corbin's residence which ran from late morning to late evening. It was a funfilled gettogether, with foodfair, games, dances. This is the night of membership drive and formal election of officers for 2010 1nd 2011. Elected offficers were: President- Tarcila R. Rodrigo, M.D., VP- Manuel Mejia, Secretary- Rey Saldivar Rodrigo, Asst. secretary- Delia de Guzman, Treasurer- Roger Corbin, Asst. treasurer- Gerry Manangan, Auditor- Teresita Larican, PRO- Rudy Ortiz, PRO- Freddie Abad, PRO- Jeannie Bougneit, Business manager- Edgar Mejia, Advisors - Peter Dumaliang, Froilan Mejia, Sr., Dr. Lily Jacob, Oscar Martinez and Dr. Manolo Tampoya. These officers took oath at the formal gala night, Day 2. A beautiful and enjoyable night with dancing and was graced with our speaker, Brig. Gen. Romeo Prestoza. Day 3 was another meeting and planning for the next venue of GR4. Ontario, Canada was selected and headed by Mr. Rudy Ortiz, and held at the Corbin's residence. There were 285 attendees. A unanimous decision was made to move forward in obtaining a tax exempt status of the organization. I then proceeded the long process of applying for the 501c3 with the IRS. The initial application at the later part of 2009 , based on the review of the current activities , which was mostly social, did not qualify us for tax exempion. A required allotment of the time spent should be more of activities described in our objective , charitable, religious, educational and scientific purposes, and the social will only be incidental, the proposed is 30-40% . After a revised future plan of the 3-day activites, only then that the status of 501c3 was approved. So, a formal letter of approval was sent on March 10, 2010. This should always be followed in our future activities. And so, we have tried to implement this during our next GI. On Feb 18 and 19 ,2011, we embarked on a 2-day medical mission in our hometown ,giving medical, pediatric and minisurgical services to our needy townmates. This was spearheaded by the president and the vice president and staffed by unselfish members and townmates reported in the GI4 souvenir program in detail. Nothing is more gratifying than to be of help to your fellowmen. In addition to this, our aid is being extended to 4 children with congenital heart disease to help finance their corrective surgery at the Heart Institute. This is still ongoing. GRI- July 22,23 & 24, 2011 at Delta Toronto East Hotel, Toronto, Ontario. Our Sannicolanians exhibited their cooperation and their organizational accumen under the chairmanship of Mr. Rudy Ortiz. Day 1 was spent in a daytime educational activities in a well-appointed room. Topics covered were personal management presented by Grace Laureta Bejemil, computer class by Noe Serquina and distribution of educational materials by Dr. Lily Jacob. Roger Corbin presented a financial program and Manuel Mejia a possible TESDA project to support. A country western fair was the evening's theme enjoyed by everyone. Day 2 - educational activity was suspended because of lack of attendance. Gala Filipiniana was the night's theme. Day 3 was a picnic in at the park with general membership meeting following a walkathon to raise funds for the Dengue cases in San Nicolas. This was headed by Manuel Mejia. The funds raised was added to the cardiac fund after the initial need of the Dengue patients were satisfied. During the meeting, the structure of the officers and board of directors were revised to elect several VP's to add to the officers. Further discussion of succession of the president is due in the next meeting. Mr. Manuel Mejia will be the next president. communications to Philippines and the members and the different ideas and projects he contributed to the association.
